We are currently working on an exciting project with a developer in Sutton, and while not complete yet, the journey so far has been quite a whirlwind! Our client initially contacted us to assist with converting an office building under Prior Approval into six residential flats with bin and bike storage – but we have already come up against some huge hurdles.

Our Solution

As with every project, the first stage was to undertake a measured survey to provide us with the data needed to produce accurate, to-scale drawings. From here, we created the proposed drawings and submitted them for Prior Approval – and this is where we encountered a hurdle.

The council refused our drawings; however, confident that our client’s plans did meet the relevant guidelines, we opted to appeal the decision. We submitted an appeal statement on our client’s behalf, providing evidence of our justifications.

After liaising with the local inspector, we were finally given the news that we’d hoped for – the inspector determined the case in our favour and overturned the decision. The project has now been approved to convert the building into three two-bedroom and three one-bedroom flats. We have just finished producing technical drawings, ready for contractors to price and commence works.
